PSSSB Typing Rules 2025

The 92% Accuracy Trap: Everything You Need to Know

ਪੀ.ਐੱਸ.ਐੱਸ.ਐੱਸ.ਬੀ. ਟਾਈਪਿੰਗ ਨਿਯਮ 2025

⚠️ Critical: The 92% Rule

If your accuracy is 91.9% or below, you will FAIL the test - regardless of your typing speed.

Even typing at 50 WPM wont help if accuracy is below 92%. Focus on accuracy first!

⚡ Speed Requirements

Punjabi Typing

30 WPM

Minimum required speed for Raavi font

English Typing

35 WPM

Minimum required speed for English

🧮 How Speed is Calculated

Gross WPM = (Total Characters ÷ 5) ÷ Time in Minutes

Example: If you type 1500 characters in 10 minutes:

• Gross WPM = (1500 ÷ 5) ÷ 10 = 300 ÷ 10 = 30 WPM

Note: One word = 5 characters (including spaces). This is the standard measure.

🎯 Accuracy Calculation

Accuracy = (Correct Characters ÷ Total Characters) × 100

Example: If you typed 1500 characters with 120 mistakes:

• Correct = 1500 - 120 = 1380 characters

• Accuracy = (1380 ÷ 1500) × 100 = 92% ✓ Pass

❌ Types of Mistakes

Full Mistake (1 Error)

  • • Wrong character typed
  • • Missing character (skipped)
  • • Extra character added
  • • Wrong matra or vowel sign

Half Mistake (0.5 Error)

  • • Extra space between words
  • • Missing space between words
  • • Capital instead of small (in English)

⌫ Backspace Policy

✓ Yes, Backspace IS allowed in PSSSB typing tests

However, using backspace has consequences:

  • •It consumes valuable time
  • •May reduce your final WPM
  • •But helps maintain accuracy (which is more important!)

Pro Tip: Use backspace only for critical errors. Minor mistakes at the end are better than wasting time correcting small errors.

📋 Pass/Fail Criteria Summary

Speed ≥ 30 WPM, Accuracy ≥ 92%Both met✓ PASS
Speed ≥ 30 WPM, Accuracy < 92%Accuracy not met✗ FAIL

📜 History of PSSSB Typing Tests

The Punjab Subordinate Services Selection Board (PSSSB) was established to conduct recruitment for Group C and D posts in Punjab government departments. Typing tests have been a crucial component of clerical recruitment since the board's inception.

Over the years, the typing test format has evolved:

  • •Earlier: Manual typewriters were used, with manual word counting
  • •2010s: Transition to computer-based tests with automated scoring
  • •Current: Chunk-based system with 80% completion requirement per chunk

The standardization of Raavi font (Unicode) has made it easier for candidates to practice on their personal computers, as the font comes pre-installed on Windows systems.

⚠️ Common Mistakes That Lead to Failure

Why Candidates Fail

  • 1.Ignoring accuracy - Focusing only on speed leads to accuracy below 92%
  • 2.No simulator practice - Unfamiliar with chunk navigation on exam day
  • 3.Wrong finger positions - Hunt-and-peck typing is too slow
  • 4.Looking at keyboard - Takes eyes off screen, causes missed errors
  • 5.Panicking on difficult words - Stress leads to more mistakes

How to Avoid These Mistakes

  • ✓Practice with 95%+ accuracy before focusing on speed
  • ✓Use our simulator daily for at least 2 weeks before exam
  • ✓Complete the 10-day Academy course for proper technique
  • ✓Use virtual keyboard on screen, never look down
  • ✓Take deep breaths, slow down when you feel stressed

📦 Understanding the Chunk System

The "Chunk" system is unique to Punjab government typing tests. Unlike regular typing tests where you type continuously, PSSSB divides the passage into blocks (chunks) of approximately 30 words each.

How Chunks Work:

  1. 1.You see one chunk at a time on screen (approximately 30 words)
  2. 2.Type the chunk in the input area below
  3. 3.You must type at least 80% of the chunk before proceeding
  4. 4.Press Enter to move to the next chunk
  5. 5.You can go back to previous chunks using Page Up

Why this system? The chunk system prevents candidates from skipping difficult sections and ensures everyone attempts the complete passage. It also simulates real-world data entry where you often type from physical documents in sections.

❓ More Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use my own keyboard in the exam?

No, you must use the keyboards provided at the exam center. Practice on standard keyboards to avoid surprises. Our simulator uses the standard Raavi keyboard layout.

What if the Raavi keyboard does not show in exam?

Inform the invigilator immediately. They will help you switch to Punjabi keyboard (Win + Space). This is rare as systems are pre-configured.

Is there negative marking for mistakes?

No negative marking per se, but mistakes reduce your accuracy. If accuracy falls below 92%, you fail regardless of speed. Focus on minimizing errors.

Can I see my results immediately after the test?

Usually no. Official results are announced later with the merit list. However, you can estimate your performance based on how much you typed and errors made.

What happens if power goes off during the exam?

Exam centers have backup power. Your progress is usually saved. If there's a major disruption, the exam may be rescheduled for affected candidates.
